In 2009 Yuko Gulda organized the commemorative ceremony GENBAKU NO HI – International Memorial Day for the Victims of the Atomic Bombs in Japan.

At the ceremony it was proposed to introduce GENBAKU NO HI as an »International Memorial Day« to be held on the 8 th of August every year.

Dedicated representatives of different organizations of the UN in Vienna, including Tadatoshi Akiba, Kazuo Soda, Norbert Scheed, Ban Ki Moon, Klaus Renoldner, Tariqu Rauf, Maher Nasser, Stephan Heisler, Annika Thunnborg and Hibakusha Nagasaki Kazuo Soda read statements about a world free from nuclear weapons.

The mayor of Hiroshima, Tadatoshi Akiba read his message via video. For a few years mayors of various cities in Japan and world-wide have been involved in an international interest-group that speaks out against nuclear weapons.
